Voice Type transcribes speech on-device and does not upload your audio to the cloud. We collect only what's required to operate the Mac App Store version of the product and to support paying customers.
Payments
Purchases, refunds, and trials are processed by Apple. Apple may collect payment identifiers (for example, billing zip code or transaction IDs) to comply with financial regulations. We never see or store your card details.
Crash logs and diagnostics
The app does not automatically send crash reports. If you contact support about an issue, we might request a diagnostic log so we can reproduce the problem. Logs you email to us are used solely to fix that issue and are deleted after resolution.
Cookies on the marketing site
The marketing website uses lightweight analytics cookies to understand aggregate traffic patterns. You can disable cookies in your browser; the site will continue to function, though certain personalization features may be limited.
Subprocessors
A subprocessor is a company we engage to process data on our behalf. We engage three, and none of them is in the path of a spoken word. Current as of 2026-08-29.
- Apple handles Mac App Store distribution, payment, receipts, and the iCloud mailbox behind support@carelesswhisper.app. Never sees dictation.
- Cloudflare handles website hosting, DNS, the files.carelesswhisper.app host, and email forwarding for support@carelesswhisper.app. Never sees dictation.
- PostHog handles website analytics only, on us.i.posthog.com, which is PostHog's United States cloud. Never sees dictation.
Bring-your-own-key rewrite providers are not subprocessors. You supply the key, you pay the provider, and the request goes from your Mac to that provider directly. Your information
We do not collect personally identifying information inside the app. Account records consist of the receipt Apple issues after purchase plus any optional details you share with support.
Security practices
Voice Type is distributed via the Mac App Store and is sandboxed. We follow industry best practices for device security, access controls, and secure development. No system is 100% immune to risk, but we keep the attack surface intentionally small by running entirely on your Mac.
Children's privacy
Voice Type is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided data, contact us and we will delete it.
Updates
We revise this policy when product functionality changes. The last updated date appears at the top of this page, and we highlight major changes inside the app and on our changelog.
